The question that author Robert Duperre has answer for me:Q.What is your dream vacation away from writing? My Dream Vacation away from writing? That one’s quite easy.My wife Jess and I rarely go anywhere. What with work and each of our home businesses (she’s an artist), we spend much of our alone-time without the kids sequestered in our respective studio spaces, plugging away at our various projects. However, we do convene on many occasions just to dream about what we’ll do once we have the money (and time) to pull it off. This entails an island in the Caribbean, a lavish hotel far away from civilization, and no worries in the world. White sand beaches, sparkling blue water, sun, heat, walking in the surf, drinking cocktails in a cabana during the day. At night we’ll snuggle up beside each other in various states of undress, gazing at the stars, talking about anything and everything under the sun, and then…well, you know. I won’t have my laptop, Jess won’t have her easel, and we’ll be able to forget about sales figures, trends, or any other online venture for however long we’re away.Yeah, that’s the dream. It might be simple, but I fantasize about it often. Soon, I tell you. Soon.

Special Content:Some bad guys are easy to relate to even if they’re not easy to like.  Are antagonists important to a story and how much do you think a reader should be able to identify with the villain?
Antagonists are very important to a story!  After all, without an antagonist, where is the conflict?  It’s a necessary component to any tale – though not all antagonists have to be walking, talking, or even animate beings.  For example, the symptom of drug abuse can be just as interesting and relatable – sometimes more so – than an evil arch-villain.And whether or not you can identify with the villain depends on the type of story, I think.  In tales with strong fantasy elements, I feel there can be much less emphasis on identification than in a story set more in our real, everyday world.  Although in this latter instance, there is the probability that not everyone will relate to the villain, even if the author did his or her best to make that happen. Some bad guys are easy to relate to even if they’re not easy to like.  Are antagonists important to a story and how much do you think a reader should be able to identify with the villain? It’s a slippery, scary slope at times, but just like waterslides, many times the ride is pretty darn fun.
